For this very easy-to-make, yet delicious appetizer you will need only four ingredients:  fresh figs, goat cheese, honey and pepper.

Fig Preparation

Cut off stems from figs.  Then cut each fig into quarters without cutting all the way through (see photo above).  Next, carefully add goat cheese into the middle of each fig.

Ingredients

  • 6-8 figs Black Mission or your favorite varietal
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon goat cheese per fig
  • Freshly cracked Pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Wash, dry and remove stems from the figs.
  • Cut each fig into quarters without cutting all of the way through the fig.
  • Place an approximate teaspoon of goat cheese into each fig.
  • Arrange figs on a platter and drizzle honey on top and finish with freshly cracked pepper to taste.

Notes

Figs are the absolute best and sweetest when they are soft (not mushy, just soft).  So don’t be shy, gently give them a squeeze to make sure your figs are soft. Often times, figs can be as hard as rocks.
If your figs are firm, leave them on the counter for a day to soften up before refrigerating them.
Use your favorite honey and goat cheese.
This appetizer is meant to be served at room temperature in order for the flavors to meld.
Depending of the size of the figs, I estimate 1-2 figs per person.
Experiment with different garnish…crushed nuts, chives, lemon zest, etc
