Oven-Baked Candied Bacon

Oven-Baked Candied Bacon

In general, I prefer salty over sweet but sometimes there’s that perfect interplay of sweet-n-salty. Oven-Baked Candied Bacon is the ideal combo of sweet, salty AND crispy. With only two ingredients needed, it’s super easy to make. Plus, there’s no messy grease splatter to clean up because you’re cooking the bacon in the oven. 🥓😎

ingredients - center cut thick bacon and Sugar in the Raw

Use one package of center cut thick bacon. I slice the bacon strips in half because I think it’s the perfect snacking size but you don’t have to. Place Sugar in the Raw or any turbinado sugar in a bowl.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper (for easier clean up!) and then place a baking rack on top. Using a baking rack accomplishes two goals. 1) It allows for crispier bacon because the fat from the bacon drips onto the parchment and 2) No flipping of bacon slices is necessary because air flow circulates freely around each bacon slice. Easy! Place bacon slices on the rack without overlapping the them. (Two trays may be needed.)

Cook bacon in a 400 degree oven for 10 mins. Then sprinkle sugar over each bacon slice and continue cooking for 15-20 additional mins. Total cook time 25-30 mins

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Place bacon in the oven on the middle rack and cook for 10 minutes.

Remove baking sheet from the oven and sprinkle the top of the bacon slices with sugar, approx 1/4 teaspoon (or more) per half slice of bacon. (If you’d like to add some spice you can also sprinkle cayenne on for a sweet and spicy rendition.) Place baking sheet back in the oven and continue cooking for another 15-20 mins. Total cooking time 25-30 minutes. I cooked mine the full 30 mins.
