Homemade Chunky Guacamole

Homemade Chunky Guacamole

Homemade Chunky Guacamole is so good. Whenever avocados go on sale I buy a bunch of them so I can make a big bowl of homemade guacamole. There’s no reason to buy the pre-made stuff when making the real-deal is so easy.

Mash Avocado with a Fork

smash avocado with a fork

Make sure your avocados are ripe. They should be soft and cut easily. Cut each avocado in half, remove the pit and peel off the skin. Cut out any brown parts. Then take a fork and mash up until you get the consistency you like. I prefer mine slightly chunky.

Ingredients to Add to Mashed Avocado

chop onions and cilantro, lemon slice

Next add some chopped onion, cilantro, salt, pepper, and lemon (you can use lime if you prefer but I find the lemon is my secret ingredient).

mix ingredients, spices and sauces into the smashed avocado

Then add dashes of Worcestershire and Pickapeppa sauces. Or substitute any hot sauce of your liking.

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe Avocados
  • 1/3 cup chopped onions
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 1/4 of a lemon squeezed
  • 1 Tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 Tsp Pickapeppa sauce
  • 1 Tsp Kosher salt more to taste
  • 1/2 Tsp Freshly ground pepper

Instructions

  • Cut avocados, remove pit and take off the skin.
  • Mash with a fork to the chunkiness you prefer.
  • Add salt, pepper, onion, cilantro, lemon, Worcestershire and Pickapeppa sauces.
  • Mix until just incorporated.
  • Serve in a bowl or use the avocado skins to make individual guacamole bowls.
  • Garnish with tomatoes.

Notes

Always buy an extra avocado or two when making guacamole.  Often times I cut open an avocado to find it’s completely rotten.
If there are a few brown spots on the avocados, no problem, just cut them out before mashing.
Don’t make the guacamole too far in advance because the air turns the avocados brown. If this happens, take a spoon and scrape off the browned layer and you should be good to go.
Any of the seasoning ingredients can be adjusted (or omitted) based on personal taste.
Avocados need a decent amount of salt to bring out their flavor.

Thank you to my mom who taught me how to make delicious guacamole.
