DIY French Onion Dip
There’s no sulfates, wheat, or corn syrups in this gluten free DIY French Onion Dip. It’s made with ingredients you can pronounce and it’s beyond delicious. The mix of sugary-sweet caramelized onions with crunchy raw shallots and chives makes this a seriously awesome onion dip. The freshness of ingredients combined with the delicious flavor sets this apart from anything you can buy in the market.

Ingredients for DIY French Onion Dip – diced onions, sliced shallots, sour cream, chives, garlic, lemon juice, and thyme.
Caramelizing the Onions
Heat medium sized pan over medium-low heat and then add onions and garlic. Cook onions and garlic for 35-40 minutes until onions are very tender and browned. Remove pan from heat and let cool for at least 15 minutes.
Combine All of the Ingredients
Using a medium-sized bowl, combine the onions and garlic with the shallots, thyme, chives, lemon juice, and sour cream.

Place onion dip into a medium/small-sized serving bowl and garnish with more chives. Serve with your favorite dippers.
DIY French Onion Dip
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion diced (about 2 cups)
- 2 garlic cloves pressed or grated
- couple of thyme sprigs leaves only
- 1 small shallot sliced in half vertically and then thinly sliced, keep raw
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice fresh squeezed
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup chives thinly sliced, use some for garnish
- Serve with lentil chips, potato chips, gf crackers and/or cut veggies
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in medium sized pan over medium-low heat and then add onions and garlic.

- Using a medium-sized bowl, combine the onions and garlic with the shallots, thyme, chives, lemon juice, and sour cream.
- Place onion dip into a medium/small-sized serving bowl and garnish with more chives. Serve dip with gluten free chips, crackers and/or sliced veggies.
