Super-Simple Steamed Broccoli

Ingredients

  • 2-3 medium size broccoli heads (or 1 large) rinsed, and cut into florets
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  • Cut broccoli into same size florets trimming the stems (see photo above).
  • Add 1 cup water to a large bowl that will fit into your microwave.
  • Place florets on top of the water in the large bowl.
  • Microwave on high for 5 minutes uncovered.
  • When removing the bowl from the microwave use a towel or pot holders because the bowl will be very hot.
  • Pour broccoli into a colander and drain water.
  • The broccoli is now perfectly steamed. Serve plain, use in a stir fry or salad, or dress it up with some toppings as I did - lemon zest, toasted pine nuts, parmesan, lemon olive oil, kosher salt, and pepper. Be creative and add your favorites.

Notes

The broccoli florets will cook unevenly if the florets are all different sizes.
Look for bright green broccoli heads and pick the heaviest ones.
